Keychain – Head Gasket for VAG 1.6 D / TD
The 1.6 diesels of the 1980s and 1990s – known as 1.6 D and 1.6 TD – powered VW Golf II/III, Jetta, Passat B2/B3, Caddy and Audi 80 models. With 1,588 cc, four cylinders and up to 80 hp in turbocharged guise, they became staples of everyday mobility. Our keychain represents the gasket of these classics in miniature.
Technical details included swirl-chamber injection, cast-iron blocks, belt-driven camshafts and straightforward peripheral design. Turbo versions used small exhaust-driven units without intercooling, giving the Golf II GTD its distinct diesel performance identity.
Common issues were timing-belt service, glow plugs, injection-pump wear and head gaskets after high mileage. Corrosion around cooling components and exhaust manifolds was also common in older cars—but well within reach of experienced mechanics.
Today the 1.6 TD is remembered as a cult motor of the early GTD era, still found in daily drivers or retro projects. They even saw use in endurance racing and grassroots motorsport.
This keychain makes a perfect gift for Golf II or Jetta owners—or something to keep yourself if you never forgot the rumbling character of these 1.6 diesels.
Proudly crafted in Germany, meticulously detailed and finely finished for a refined in-hand feel paired with a premium brushed surface.
