Launched in 2007, the EA888 family became the backbone of VW Group performance. With 1.8 and 2.0 liters, DOHC, 16 valves, turbocharging and direct injection, it powered Golf GTIs, Audi A3/A4, Seat Leon Cupras and Skoda Octavia RS. Our keychain reproduces the gasket outline of this modern classic in crisp miniature.
Engineering highlights include aluminum blocks, variable valve timing, chain drive and efficient turbo units. Later generations added dual injection, integrated exhaust manifolds and high-tech turbos. Across four evolutions, the EA888 became both efficient commuter and tunable powerhouse.
Known topics include timing-chain tensioners on early versions, oil consumption, injectors and high-pressure pumps. Water pumps and cooling modules are other points of attention. With updates, these engines have proven durable and extremely tuning-friendly.
