The third-generation Dodge HEMI marked the modern rebirth of the legendary nameplate starting in 2003. Offered in 5.7 L (345 ci), 6.1 L (370 ci), and 6.4 L (392 ci) versions, the Gen 3 HEMI family delivered big power, torque, and technology across a wide range of vehicles – from Dodge Charger and Challenger to Chrysler 300C, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Durango.
The 5.7 HEMI (345 ci, from 2003) became the versatile workhorse with up to 375 hp, Multi-Displacement System (MDS) cylinder deactivation, and impressive longevity. The 6.1 HEMI (370 ci, 2005–2010) emphasized pure performance with 425 hp in SRT8 models like the Chrysler 300C, Charger, and Challenger. The 6.4 HEMI (392 ci) became the icon of the modern muscle era, delivering up to 485 hp and massive torque in Scat Pack cars and other performance applications.
Known issues include head gaskets at high mileage, oil consumption, and MDS valve concerns. Overall, however, the Gen 3 HEMIs are celebrated for their durability and unmistakable V8 sound that Mopar enthusiasts around the world admire.
