The Mercedes M177 is the backbone V8 of the modern AMG line-up: a 4.0-litre twin-turbo hot-V V8 delivering anything from around 470 to well over 600 hp depending on application. It powers cars such as the C 63 (W205), E 63 (W213), S 63 (W222/C217/A217), GLC 63, G 63 (W463), GT 63 4-Door (X290), GLE 63, GLS 63 and even Aston Martin models like the DB11, Vantage and DBX. Our keychain recreates this engine’s head gasket as a precise stainless-steel miniature.
Under the covers, the M177 uses a closed-deck aluminium block with 83 mm bore and 92 mm stroke, four-valve DOHC heads, direct injection and two turbochargers mounted in the V. Depending on the car, you’ll find single-scroll or twin-scroll turbos, cylinder deactivation and, in later versions, a 48-V ISG mild-hybrid system. The result is a platform that suits everything from compact saloons to heavy SUVs and high-performance four-door coupes.
