Keychain – Head Gasket for PSA 2.0 HDi DW10

The PSA 2.0 HDi DW10 is exactly the kind of engine that instantly brings back a very specific picture for the right enthusiast: a Peugeot or Citroën from the late 1990s, 2000s or early 2010s, strong low-end pull and that unmistakable HDi feel that marked PSA’s step into the modern diesel era. This piece is aimed at the broad DW10 family with 1,997 cc, from the early 2.0 HDi 90 and 110 all the way to the later 16-valve, FAP-equipped and more powerful versions. Depending on generation, this engine turns up in cars like the Peugeot 306, 307, 308, 406, 407, 508, 607, Expert and Traveller, and on the Citroën side in the Xsara, Xantia, Xsara Picasso, C4, C5, C8, Jumpy and Spacetourer. If codes like RHY, RHZ, RHR or DW10C instantly make you think of a certain platform, a certain sound or a very specific ownership experience, you are exactly the person this design is aimed at.

What makes the DW10 interesting is that it is not just one engine but a full development line of PSA diesel engineering. The early 2.0 HDi was one of PSA’s first common-rail direct-injection diesels and initially came with an 8-valve layout; later versions added 16 valves, variable-geometry turbocharging, FAP particulate filters and, in newer BlueHDi-adjacent forms, SCR emissions control. That is why the DW10 means more to enthusiasts than just “that old 2.0 diesel.” It stretches from the simple, honest RHY in the 90 hp range to stronger units like the RHZ, RHR or DW10FC with noticeably more shove and more advanced hardware around them. In search language and workshop conversations, terms like DW10ATED, DW10ATED4, DW10BTED4, DW10C, DW10FC, 2.0 HDi 90, 2.0 HDi 110, 2.0 HDi 136, FAP, VGT, common rail or 16-valve HDi appear very naturally.

Anyone who has owned or spent real time around one of these engines knows the typical topics too, and usually from direct experience rather than internet folklore. Injectors, rail pressure, vacuum systems, turbo hoses, EGR, MAF sensors, FAP on the relevant versions, timing belt service, water pump, cooling and the general question of how carefully a car has been serviced all matter here. With the DW10, far more depends on maintenance quality and mechanical understanding than on show or image. A good DW10 feels refined, long-legged and far more grown-up than its badge might suggest, while a neglected one tends to reveal all the usual diesel peripheral issues more clearly. That is exactly why the head gasket shape works so well as the motif. It points to the real mechanical substance, not to a generic brand symbol.

For people close to the PSA scene, the DW10 is also one of those engines that keeps reappearing in very different cars while still feeling instantly recognisable. A 406 HDi 110, a 307 HDi, a C5 2.0 HDi, a Xsara Picasso HDi 110 or a later 508 2.0 HDi 163 do not feel identical, but they all share that same base character of strong mid-range torque, relaxed motorway pace and understated efficiency. Then there is the van and utility side in the Expert, Jumpy, Scudo and related platforms, where the DW10 often earned respect not as a collector’s engine but as a genuine workhorse. It is not the kind of motor people admire because it shouts. It is the kind they come to respect through mileage, sound and day-to-day use.

Whether it lives on your own keys or as a gift for someone who instantly connects 2.0 HDi, DW10 or RHZ with their 406, C5 or Xsara Picasso, this keychain works because it does not need explaining. At first glance it is simply a technical shape. On second look it becomes a very specific reference for people who did not just drive PSA common-rail diesels, but really got to know them. To outsiders it stays unusual. To the right people it is instantly readable.

Proudly crafted in Germany, meticulously detailed and finely finished for a refined in-hand feel paired with a premium brushed surface.

*The "rubberized" covers (TPU) are clipped on, not glued. They still hold perfectly and can be removed if you prefer the "bare" look. We can't guarantee they can be reattached afterward. So either leave them on or take them off, but no back and forth :)
