Keychain – Head Gasket for Toyota 5L

The Toyota 5L is the 3.0-litre inline-four diesel from the L-series family, found in workhorses like Hilux pickups, Hiace vans, Dyna/Toyoace trucks, Kijang/Condor people carriers and various light commercials throughout the 1990s and 2000s. A naturally aspirated 3.0D with plenty of displacement per cylinder, a mechanical injection pump and that unmistakable old-school Toyota diesel soundtrack – this keychain turns the 5L head gasket into a finely detailed stainless-steel miniature.

Under the skin the 5L runs around 2,985 cc, single overhead cam with two valves per cylinder, indirect injection and a timing belt. In Hilux LN147/152/167/172, Hiace LH154/162/172/184 or Dyna 150 applications it makes roughly 90 hp and a healthy amount of low-end torque, exactly what you want for loaded beds, roof racks and long grades. Cast-iron block and head plus simple ancillaries make it a favourite wherever “reliability” still means being fixable with basic tools rather than a laptop.

Enthusiast talk around the 5L is mostly about sensible maintenance: staying on top of timing belt and tensioner changes, keeping the radiator and cooling system clean, checking glow plugs and injectors on high-mileage engines and watching for tired seals on the injection pump rather than waiting for big failures. Look after oil, filters and coolant and, in many cases, chassis and bodywork become the limiting factors long before the engine itself.

In the 4x4 and van community the 5L has quietly become a go-to for simple, long-range builds: Hilux “Mighty-X” utes heading across Africa or Australia, Hiace campers doing vanlife duty, Dyna/Toyoace trucks converted into workshop rigs or food trucks, and Kijang/Condor family cars turned overlanders. Some owners bolt on a mild turbo to wake things up on the highway, others enjoy the calm, naturally aspirated character – either way, the 5L stands for straightforward, globally supported diesel hardware.

This head-gasket keychain is the small stainless statement for anyone who appreciates that philosophy. It belongs on the keys to your Hilux, Hiace, Dyna or Kijang as much as on the keyring of a friend who hears “3.0D L-engine” and immediately pictures dusty tracks, fuel drums and a Toyota that just keeps going. At first glance it’s a clean piece of metal, on second look it’s a quiet nod to the L-series crowd.

Proudly crafted in Germany, meticulously detailed and finely finished for a refined in-hand feel paired with a premium brushed surface.

*The "rubberized" covers (TPU) are clipped on, not glued. They still hold perfectly and can be removed if you prefer the "bare" look. We can't guarantee they can be reattached afterward. So either leave them on or take them off, but no back and forth :)
